UW-Milwaukee MBA Program and Entrepreneurship

Classes started last week for the UW-Milwaukee MBA program. I was excited about my class schedule this semester because of one class: Entrepreneurship. An MBA class dedicated to entrepreneurs.. how could you go wrong?

Well, UWM did it wrong. Anyone that’s met me before knows that I wouldn’t be considered a calculated individual. I rarely plan things and often “fly by the seat of my pants”. To me, that’s the only way to stay on your toes and compete at the highest level. Unprepared as usual, I hadn’t looked at the books that were required for the class. I looked around and noticed an old, blue tattered book on the desks of my classmates. Shrugging it off, I waited for the professor to begin. After introductions, he held up a book – that same old, blue book I saw earlier, and said we should purchase it if we haven’t already.

Quickly, I Googled the title and noticed it was printed in 1998. Seriously? You can’t teach entrepreneurship with a text from 1998. That’s like teaching computer repair on an old Dell with an Intel Centron Processor – it’s obsolete. As if that wasn’t enough, he then went on to say how we will spend most of our class time writing a 25 page business plan.

That was it. I left, never to return.
